Statement of Purpose

Since childhood the outdoors have been my refuge. It is a place I gravitate to physically, spiritually and emotionally. Here time stops. Sensation and feeling, come alive. These photos share a glimpse of my experience there during this Wintersession.

To me, the overlooked is more interesting than the ordinary and can be more dynamic without us even taking the time and interest to engage. I wanted to focus on the beauty that is present in nature close up, from afar and from various angles to help create a moving and captivating image.

Outside in nature is a place that feels like no other. I am always excited by both the physical beauty of the wilderness that come along with the feelings of tranquility and serenity which it affects mentally. Nature is a place where I have been going to escape the busy and stressful world since I was a little boy. I do the same activities when I am in nature since I was young with the same feeling of excitement for adventure which I’ve noticed is a feeling that never goes away even as I age. I get this feeling of freedom and relaxation when I get put into the world that is nature, where anything goes and anything can happen. Nature helps me to live in the moment and slow down with my life where I tend to speed up and rush through. It has a beauty that captures all five senses with the natural and organic feelings that transcend me into a world that is like heaven on earth. While shooting in nature, time and everything around me stops. I forget about all the stress and worry happening in the world and live in the moment while outdoors. I want to capture some photos of what a woods adventure and time spent outdoors looks like and how the wilderness can be a roller coaster of emotions and sensations. These photos share a glimpse of what this feeling is like from nature and how this is the place where I gravitate towards physically, spiritually and emotionally.

To me, the overlooked is more interesting than the ordinary and can be more dynamic without us even taking the time and interest to engage. I wanted to focus on the beauty that is present in nature close up, from afar and from various angles to help create a moving and captivating image. I want to achieve these effects by shifting my focus/depth of field on my camera and by having a sharp and close up focus on the beauty that is within the outdoors around us. Seeking to have images that capture senses of emotion which evoke the various sensations felt while one is in nature and transcend them upon the viewer.
